STORM Junior Certification Course

Welcome to the unique certification workshop for kids on reptiles. At this workshop, your child will get a strong foundation on reptiles through theory sessions, activities and up-close observation of reptiles and interaction with reptile keepers at Bannerghatta Zoo. The program will be led by herpetologist Mr. P Gowri Shankar.

Course Designer and Director​

As a rescuer, researcher, public speaker, presenter, educator and conservationist, Gowri Shankar brings forth 360 degree perspective of snake rescue and conservation.

He wishes to educate people about snakes, help them over come their fears, and learn to treat them with respect. He hopes someday these magnificent animals will get a fair chance to life

Priyanka Swamy

PhD Student, University of Mysore

Priyanka has diverse experience across ecological field and laboratory work.

As part of the Phylogeography of king cobras project, she has travelled to king cobra habitats across the world and has experience with phylogenetic and population genetics tools to understand evolutionary and biogeography patterns and assist conservation prioritisation. She has also addressed questions related to diversity pattern, population structure and drivers of diversification of the Ranids of the Western Ghats and other herpetofauna.
An excellent environment educator, she has co-conducted a wide range of outreach programs for diverse audiences from school and college students, to forest officials, researchers, and enthusiasts.
She is now embarking on her PhD project on Malabar pit vipers which will mark a beginning to a topic long-awaited to be discovered.

  • First aid for snake bites  
  • Herp walk to spot and learn about reptiles in their habitat
  • Snake awareness and education  
  • Meet the reptiles at Bannerghatta Zoo
  • Reflection, certificate distribution & departure

Venue: A Rocha Field Study Centre, #13, Kasserguppe Village, Bilwardahalli (Dakle), Bannerghatta (Post), Jigani (Hobli), Anekal (Taluk), Bangalore South-560083.

Date: 24th April 2021 Saturday  

Time: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Eligibility: 13 – 17 yrs of age

 

Event fee (Per child):

Fee: Rs.2,500 including food & snacks

Includes: Mid-morning snack, Lunch(Veg), post-afternoon snack, program cost, certificate, and GST

Does not include: Travel and personal expenses.
